With so many different rules and regulations, the administrative requirements can often add complexity to your logistics activities. Various types of documentation are required in order to import or export goods.
Import
When importing products, each mode of transport is associated with a different type of document: a CMR for road transport, an airway bill for air cargo and a bill of lading (B/L) for sea freight. Each consignment must also be accompanied by a commercial invoice that complies with the legal requirements for sales tax. If you’re importing products into the European Union (EU) from non-EU countries you will require additional documentation, such as the T1 document which allows you to bring goods into free circulation in the EU. Furthermore, you will face extra checks by the customs office.
Export
Over recent years, it has become considerably easier to export goods within the EU as customs checks and import duties have been abolished. However, you’ll still face checks and duties if you’re trading with non-EU countries. In order to export products outside of the EU, you will need to submit a digital customs declaration.
Registration
Registration with government authorities all over the world has become an unavoidable aspect of international logistics. Various technological solutions are available to help you comply with the relevant regulations and legislation. Failing to sufficiently integrate such solutions into your logistics activities not only slows down the process, but also puts you at risk of potentially high fines. There are significant variations between the registration requirements per country and per mode and type of transport (e.g. declarations for import, export, trans-shipment and customs).
The customs experts at Hitachi Transport System can relieve you of the burden of all this complexity by handling the customs activities on your behalf, including arranging the relevant documentation. This ensures that your goods can be shipped across borders with minimal risk of delays or costly fines or penalties.
